The Future Evolution of White Dwarf Stars Through Baryon Decay and Time Varying Gravitational Constant

چکیده
Motivated by the possibility that the fundamental “constants” of nature could vary with time, this paper considers the long term evolution of white dwarf stars under the combined action of proton decay and variations in the gravitational constant. White dwarfs are thus used as a theoretical laboratory to study the effects of possible time variations, especially their implications for the future history of the universe. More specifically, we consider the gravitational constant G to vary according to the parametric relation G = G0(1 + t/t⋆) , where the time scale t⋆ is the same order as the proton lifetime tP . We then study the long term fate and evolution of white dwarf stars. This treatment begins when proton decay dominates the stellar luminosity, and ends when the star becomes optically thin to its internal radiation.

The gravitational wave radiation of pulsating white dwarfs revisited : the case of BPM 37093 and PG 1159 - 035
We compute the emission of gravitational radiation from pulsating white dwarfs. This is done by using an up-to-date stellar evolutionary code coupled with a state-of-the-art pulsational code. The emission of gravitational waves is computed for a standard 0.6M⊙ white dwarf with a liquid carbon-oxygen core and a hydrogen-rich envelope, for a massive DA white dwarf with a partially crystallized co...
متن کاملStellar footprints of a variable G
Theories with varying gravitational constant G have been studied since long time ago. Among them, the most promising candidates as alternatives of the standard General Relativity are known as scalar-tensor theories. They provide consistent descriptions of the observed universe and arise as the low energy limit of several pictures of unified interactions. Therefore, an increasing interest on the...
متن کاملPopulation boundaries for Neutron star-White Dwarf binaries in LISA’s amplitude-frequency domain
In an earlier investigation, we proposed population boundaries for both inspiralling and masstransferring double white dwarf (DWD) systems in the distance independent “absolute” amplitudefrequency domain of the proposed space-based gravitational-wave (GW) detector, LISA. The massradius relationship of individual white dwarf stars, in combination with the constraints imposed by Roche geometries,...
متن کاملPulsating red giant and supergiant stars in the Local Group dwarf galaxy Andromeda I
We have conducted an optical long-term monitoring survey of the majority of dwarf galaxies in the Local Group, with the Isaac Newton Telescope (INT), to identify the long period variable (LPV) stars. LPV stars vary on timescales of months to years, and reach the largest amplitudes of their brightness variations at optical wavelengths, due to the changing temperature. They trace stellar populati...
متن کاملGravitational Radiation from Pulsating White Dwarfs
Rotating white dwarfs undergoing quasi-radial oscillations can emit gravitational radiation in a frequency range from 0.1 − 0.3 Hz. Assuming that the energy source for the gravitational radiation comes from the oblateness of the white dwarf induced by the rotation, the strain amplitude is found to be ∼ 10 for a white dwarf at ∼ 50 pc. The galactic population of these sources is estimated to be ...
